Phone tradie agreement
Last updated 18 October 2026
This agreement is between Phone a Tradie App Pty Ltd (ABN 53 703 285 376) ("we", "us") and you, a licensed tradie who gives advice to customers on video calls through the Phone a Tradie app. You accept it when you submit your application, and it applies from when we approve you.
1. You're an independent contractor
You provide advice to our customers as an independent contractor, not as our employee.
- You choose when you're online, and you can decline any call.
- You can work for anyone else, including other platforms, as long as you follow section 8.
- You're responsible for your own tax. If you're registered for GST, you tell us in the app.
- Nothing in this agreement makes you our employee, partner or agent.
2. What you need
To be approved and stay approved, you must:
- hold a current licence for each trade you take calls in, in the state shown in the app, and tell us straight away if it's suspended, cancelled, restricted or expires;
- have an ABN;
- pass our checks: we check your licence on the state register and your ABN on the Australian Business Register, read your licence and ID photos with automated tools, contact your references, and interview you on a video call;
- keep your details in the app up to date, including your bank account and super fund.
3. Giving advice
- Advice only. You never talk a customer through electrical, gas, solar or any other work that legally needs a licensed tradie on site.
- Safety first. If anything sounds dangerous, you tell the customer to stop, make it safe, and call 000 or their energy or gas provider.
- Within your trade. You only advise on calls in trades you're licensed for. If you're not sure, say so and recommend who should come out.
- Honest notes. After each call you send the customer written notes in the app. AI drafts them from the call transcript; you check and correct them before sending, and you're responsible for what they say.
- Price guides. When a written price guide would help, you offer it, and you price it honestly for the customer's area.
- Be professional. Be on time, respectful and clear. Take calls somewhere quiet, with a working camera and sound.
- Quote checks. When you take a customer's quote to check, you send your verdict within 45 minutes or give it back. Comment on the quote, not the business that wrote it: don't name it, criticise it or guess at its motives, and never offer to do the job yourself.
4. Pay
| Rate | |
|---|---|
| Time on video calls | $1.30 a minute |
| Each written price guide the customer buys and you send | $15 |
| Each quote check you send | $20 |
| Super, if you're a sole trader | 12% on top, paid to your fund |
- Call time runs from when you join the call to when it ends, up to the time the customer paid for (15 minutes plus any extra minutes they add).
- You're paid for a call once you've sent its notes. Time spent writing notes isn't paid separately.
- You're paid for a quote check once you've sent it to the customer.
- If you're registered for GST, we add GST to your pay.
- Pay runs weekly, Monday to Sunday, based on when you sent the notes. We pay into your nominated bank account by the Tuesday after each week.
- We may change these rates by giving you at least 30 days' notice in the app. If you don't agree, you can stop taking calls and end this agreement.
5. Recipient-created tax invoices
We issue your invoices for you each week (recipient-created tax invoices, or RCTIs). By accepting this agreement, you and we agree that:
- we'll issue an RCTI for each weekly pay run and give you a copy in the app;
- you won't issue your own tax invoice for the same work;
- you'll tell us straight away if your ABN or GST registration changes;
- we're registered for GST, and we'll tell you if that stops.
If you're not registered for GST, the document we give you is a record of payment, not a tax invoice.
6. Insurance
We hold professional indemnity insurance that covers advice you give on Phone a Tradie calls, subject to the policy terms. You don't need your own insurance for these calls. Tell us straight away about any complaint or claim, and help us respond to it.
7. Complaints and warnings
If a customer complains or something on a call concerns us:
- We send you a heads up. It isn't a warning.
- You get 3 days to tell us your side.
- We decide only after reading it. We may drop it, or confirm it as a warning that stays on your record for 12 months.
If you get 2 confirmed warnings in 12 months, we review your account. We may pause it, and you'll see the reason and can ask us to review the decision. If something is serious enough that customers could be at risk, we may put your account on hold straight away while we look into it, and you'll have 48 hours to tell us your side.
8. Customers stay on the platform
- You won't offer to do the job yourself, give a customer your own contact details, or take them off Phone a Tradie.
- Jobs that need someone on site go to our local tradies through the app.
- You only use customer information to give advice on the call. You keep it private and don't record or screenshot calls yourself.
9. Calls are transcribed
What's said on calls is turned into a written transcript so notes can be drafted, quality checked and complaints handled. You agree to calls being transcribed. See our Privacy policy.
10. Ending this agreement
- You can stop at any time by going offline. To end the agreement, delete your account in the app or email us.
- We can end it with 14 days' notice, or straight away if you lose your licence, give unsafe advice, act dishonestly, or seriously or repeatedly break this agreement.
- We'll still pay you for calls you completed and sent notes for.
11. Liability
Each of us is responsible for our own conduct. Nothing here limits rights that can't be excluded by law. Neither of us is liable to the other for indirect loss, such as lost profits.
12. Changes and general
We may update this agreement. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice in the app of any change that's bad for you, and you can end the agreement before it applies. This agreement is governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia.
